Shaping Government Standards and Policies

Early in 2006, Standard Register’s Senior Manager of Document Security Solutions Dan Thaxton was elected to the board of directors for the Document Security Alliance (DSA). A voluntary organization of industry leaders and government agencies, DSA is focused on improving government document security, an issue that has increased importance in a post-9/11 world.

Aligned with Government and Industry
Standard Register is one of 75 industry leaders that are participating in the alliance along with representatives of key governmental bodies and related organizations, including:

  • U.S. Secret Service
  • Department of Homeland Security
  • U.S. Food and Drug Administration
  • Transportation Security Agency
  • Social Security Administration
  • U.S. Postal Service
  • The State Department
  • General Services Administration
  • Federal Bureau of Investigation
  • The White House
  • U.S. Treasury Department
  • Government Printing Office
  • Central Intelligence Agency
  • Immigration and Customs Enforcement
  • American Association of Motor Vehicle Administrators

Addressing Critical Government Issues
Thaxton is one of six industry-at-large members on the DSA Board of Directors. His election came on the heels of several high profile contributions to critical national security issues which have established him as a thought leader.

Birth Certificates In the summer of 2005, he participated in the development of an advisory whitepaper on national security standards for birth certificates.

Social Security Cards In December 2005, Thaxton was asked to lead a team to develop security recommendations for the next generation of the U.S. Social Security number card. The team garnered wide-spread recognition for both the quality and swiftness of fulfilling its mission.

Temporary Worker Permits With Congress now formulating new legislation focused on temporary worker permits and employer verification of all workers, Thaxton has already been asked to lend his expertise. Congressional staff members have been consulting with him to gain a better understanding of the language and philosophies of the Social Security Administration, the number card, and the recommendations and guidelines outlined in the DSA white paper on the Social Security card.
