On May 6, Standard Register’s Molly Procuniar,  BSN-RN, BA, FF-P, engaged attendees of the Institute for Healthcare Advancement’s Ninth Annual Health Literacy Conference in a discussion of Mapping Patient-Centered Care.  The two-hour poster session was part of the opening night reception, held at the Hyatt Regency Irvine in Irvine, California.

The presentation, which was developed by Procuniar and her colleague, Sue Murphy, MSN-RN, explored results of the 2009 Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (HCAHPS) survey, looking at national and state-level patient satisfaction scores and readmission rates to provide a framework for hospitals and clinicians to gauge their effectiveness in communicating with patients.  The session also provided insights on how health professionals can leverage technology to create more culturally relevant documents and communication aids within the literacy levels of their diverse patient populations.

You can download highlights of the discussion, which are presented in poster format.
